Safe aircraft movements at a FARP require coordination with air traffic control. A FARP is an austere, often crowded area with limited space and various hazards on the ground, so ATC helps manage the surrounding airspace, sequence arrivals and departures, and issue clearances to enter, operate within, or exit the FARP area. This coordination ensures proper separation from other aircraft, prevents conflicts with ground operations and fueling/rearming activities, and keeps the whole flow aligned with the broader theater airspace structure. ATC support is essential for both helicopters and any fixed-wing operations that might use the FARP, ensuring safe, efficient operations in a dynamic environment. The idea that FARPs operate without ATC coordination isn’t correct, and civilian authorities don’t assume ATC responsibilities in this military context; ATC handles all aircraft types to maintain safe, coordinated airspace.
